Founded by Andrew Ranville and Anna Sysling-Ranville, The Forager & The Baker brings you delicious, small-batch granola made with love in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula. We believe that real food is medicine, and our granola reflects that philosophy. We use simple, high-quality ingredients, including local Keweenaw maple syrup, to create a wholesome and satisfying treat. Our granolas are vegan, have no gluten-containing ingredients, and no refined sugars, making them a perfect choice for a health-conscious breakfast or snack.
A few years ago, we started selling small batches of specialty wild-foraged jams, dried chaga, and vegan and gluten free baked goods at our local farmers market. One day, we decided to bake and bring a few bags of granola to sell at market on a whim, and people told us it was “the best granola they’d ever had.” It seemed like we were onto something. After perfecting four flavors, we are excited to share them with you, and spread our handcrafted, northwoods crunchy goodness with folks in the Keweenaw and beyond!

The Forager & The Baker Backstory
Andrew (the Forager) is an artist whose work explores ecology, community, and placemaking. Foraging in the abundant public lands of the Keweenaw, and finding ways for creative community engagement have been big parts of his life since moving to the Keweenaw from London in 2017. He is the Executive Director of the Rabbit Island Foundation, an international artist residency located on a remote island in Lake Superior.
Anna (the Baker) is a multimedia storyteller and poet. She is passionate about food systems, culture, and normalizing a framework of holistic health that connects the health of the individual, the community, and our planet. Anna worked full-time as a broadcast journalist for NPR and PBS affiliates in Detroit, and has engaged with cooking and baking as a creative outlet for many years. She discovered the Keweenaw Peninsula for the first time in 2023 while reporting on a story about wolves and moose on Isle Royale. This is when Anna met Andrew. They picked serviceberries, fell in love, and got married the following year, and the rest is pretty much history.
In addition to launching The Forager & The Baker, they are also building a low-power community station called Radio Keweenaw.
